Modular Vehicle Survival
This was a personal project created to gain hands-on experience with Unreal Engine.
The core mechanics remove around maintaining, repairing, and upgrading a player-driven vehicle to navigate a dynamic world and reach hazardous areas, with the vehicle providing essential protection from environmental threats.
Modular Vehicle System
The player’s vehicle is simulated using UE5's Chaos Physics/Vehicle system and a custom socket-based architecture, allowing parts such as doors, wheels, and headlights — or any other component — to be removed or replaced at runtime.
These changes dynamically affect the vehicle’s stats, including weight, handling, steering, and speed.
All car parts have physically accurate collision, so impacts can damage or, depending on the force, destroy components, directly influencing vehicle performance:
Destroyed headlights emit no light, reducing visibility at night.
Missing or damaged wheels limit handling and traction, affecting speed and drivability.
Procedurally Generated World
I implemented a procedural map system using Unreal Engine’s PCG Graph, generating a dynamic world populated with landmarks and points of interest linked by a road network.
The pathfinding system accounts for terrain elevation and slope to create realistic road layouts.
The system also interfaces with the landscape system to automatically deform the underlying landscape and make sure the roads conform to the terrain, spawn custom road meshes, setup collision etc.
